Chapter 3 Formula Sheet Finding Descriptive Statistics from a Data List To find mean, median, standard deviation, etc. from a list, perform the following steps: a. Enter or open a list of data. b. Press "STAT". c. Select "CALC" menu item. d. Select "1-Var Stats". e. Identify the list that you want to be analyzed. f. Press "ENTER". 𝑥̅ represents the mean. Med represents the median. Min represents the minimum value. Max represents the maximum value. 𝑠 represent the sample standard deviation. 𝜎 represents the population standard deviation. Q 1 represents the first quartile. Q 2 (same as the median) represents the second quartile. Q 3 represents the third quartile. Finding Descriptive Statistics from a Frequency Distribution To find the mean, median, standard deviation, etc. from a frequency distribution, perform the following steps: a. In L1, enter the class midpoints. b. In L2, enter the class frequencies. c. Press "STAT". d. Select "CALC" menu item. e. Select "1-Var Stats". f. Enter "L1", "L2". g. Press "ENTER".

5-Number Summary For a set of data, the 5-number summary consists of these five values (all in Stat Calc 1 Var Stats) Minimum Value, First quartile, Q 1 , Second quartile, Q 2 (same as the median), Third quartile, Q 3 and Maximum Value. To construct a Box Plot do the same as histogram by going to Stat Plot and choose the box plot option.
