Assignment 3 Course: Process Quality Engineering Subject: STAT 8010 - Applied Statistical Techniques - sec 4 Student name: Robin Sharma (8905617) Submitted to: Raf Bekhet Date: August 08, 2023
A research chemist wants to understand how several predictors are associated with the wrinkle resistance of cotton cloth. The chemist examines 32 pieces of cotton cellulose produced at different settings of curing time, curing temperature, formaldehyde concentration, and catalyst ratio. The durable press rating, Rating as a measure of wrinkle resistance, is recorded for each piece of cotton. Observations are as follows: Concentration Ratio Temp Time Random Rating 8 4 100 1 0.199357 5.4 2 4 180 7 0.240903 2.25 7 4 180 1 0.255141 1.6 10 7 120 5 0.140835 1.9 7 4 180 5 0.503855 1.6 7 7 180 1 0.202425 1.75 7 13 140 1 0.189619 1.6 5 4 160 7 0.011733 2.5 4 7 140 3 0.436062 1.8 5 1 100 7 0.342106 5.4 8 10 140 3 0.321477 1.7 2 4 100 3 0.138477 5.6 4 10 180 3 0.435399 1.5 6 7 120 7 0.437447 3.7 10 13 180 3 0.513989 1.8 4 10 160 5 0.353253 2.5 4 13 100 7 0.303601 1.3 10 10 120 7 0.148996 1.9 5 4 100 1 0.295393 4.5 8 13 140 1 0.357123 1.6 10 1 180 1 0.275052 2.6 2 13 140 1 0.610607 3.1 6 13 180 7 0.364033 1.7 7 1 120 7 0.34444 2.5 5 13 140 1 0.592747 1.5 8 1 160 7 0.219902 2 4 1 180 7 0.193678 5.8 6 1 160 1 0.12843 5.5 4 1 100 1 0.215612 5.3 7 10 100 7 0.118933 1.6 4 1 100 1 0.353881 5.4 4 1 100 1 0.139778 5.45 The data was used in the Minitab to generate the scatter matrix plot by following the procedure:
Minitab > Stat > Basic statistics > Correlation And the results were as follows: The results show a negative correlation between Rating and other factors (Concentration, ratio, temp, and time), which means wrinkle resistance decreases as the other values increase.
