Topic 5 DQ 1 During the Victorian Age, America gained a lot of wealth and was able to build all these amazing things but at the expense of its people and no amount of wealth was worth the hurt the American people endured. During this tme America was on the road to extreme wealth. The main developments in technologies like the telephone, refrigerator, typewriter, and electric light bulb. The developments in the steel industry and railroads were also very important, creatng more revenue for America. This tme was very important because of all the wealth the upper-class was always looking for ways to spend more money. Wealthy men like Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were some of the many who like to show of their wealth. With the success of the Carnegie Steel Company and the Standard Oil Company these men were able to give back to America with colleges, hospitals, museums, etc. These things were coming out of America's new-found wealth, but it also showed another side of America, the greed and corrupton at the hands of these industries, banks, and politcians. At the end many Americans sufered and tried to make ends meet. There were low wages and long hours in. Farmers began to collect debt because of the reduced value in crops. Racial tension was very high. Immigrants and women were treated very poorly and unfair.
