The category I have chosen is new media, and my chosen channel is ESPN.
I chose them because I love
sports, so, naturally, I choose the biggest sports market on the planet.
Their impact on the culture of
sports is unparalleled, they helped globalize sports, simply said, they made sports easy to access all
across the globe, granting us access to European soccer teams, international basketball, and they have
paved the way for international players to be drafted.
Jumping ahead to modern times, our present
culture has greatly affected the content ESPN produces.
Modern culture has influenced ESPN to help
spark social change, empowered athletes to speak out on social infractions (Kaepernick, LeBron, Megan
Rapoine, and many many more.)
The changes these athletes have sparked are due in large part to the
publicity that ESPN has provided.
