Numerous artists, musicians, and authors that suffered from mental illness. Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most recognizable names that would fit in this category. I believe that their mental illness fueled their creativity. There have been several studies that illuminate shared characteristics between creative production and mental illness. This link is debated among researchers, but I feel that it does exist. Some artists choose to self-induce the madness with drugs like LSD to be more innovative and visionary. Lady Gaga confessed that she had to use drugs to be creative. I am appreciative of the work that has been inspired by drugs and mental illness, but I don't feel that they are worth the cost to the individual. This creativity may be lost if the person is treated for their mental illness or chooses not to do drugs, but they may lose a lot more if they continue on such a dangerous path.
