Secondary Math Lesson Plan Teacher Name: Harris Grade: 7 Date: Jan. 17 th - Jan. 21 st Essential Question(s) : How do the faces of a three-dimensional figure determine the two- dimensional shapes created by slicing the figure? How is finding the area of composite two- dimensional figures similar to finding the surface area of three-dimensional figures? Learner Attribute/Character Trait: Citizenship Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Learner Outcome : No School Students will be able to identify angle relationships and use angle relationships to finding missing angles. Students will be able to calculate the area and circumference of a circle. Students will be able to determine the cross- section of a 3d- figure when cut perpendicular or parallel to the base. Students will be able to determine the cross-section of a 3d- figure when cut perpendicular or parallel to the base. Students will be able to find the surface area of three- dimensional figures. Success Criteria : - Identify relationship between two angles - Use relationship of angles to find missing angles. - Identify radius/diameter of a circle - Use area and circumference formulas to calculate area/circumferen ce of a circle - Identify 3-d figures. - Identify parallel and perpendicular - Identify cross- section. - Identify 3-d figures. - Identify parallel and perpendicular - Identify cross- section. - Identify 3-d figures by the number and shape of the sides. - Calculate the area of each individual side. Topic & Lesson or Agenda (if not using Envision) Centers Day Quiz: Angle Relationships & Circumference/Area Quiz Centers Day Cross Sections Lab: Each student will receive a container of play-dough and a cross sections lab sheet. On their lab sheet, students will be instructed to create various 3d shapes out of their play dough. Students will then slice their shapes either parallel or perpendicular to the base to see which type of cross section remains. Students will record their results on their lab sheet. Centers Day Students will work in pairs to complete task cards on cross sections. Centers Day Surface Area Lab - Students will create various 3D shapes when given the net of the shape. Students will then use the net to calculate the surface area of the shape. Centers Day
