Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words:
Congratulations! You have made it to the final week of the course. In the course so far,
you have learned about how quantitative reasoning can help you think about different
situations in your life. You learned about the history of numbers, different labels for
measuring, how numbers help us understand space, and basic algebraic techniques. After
reflecting on the content, identify three examples of concepts you have learned from this
course and how they can be used in your everyday life. Consider some of your very basic
everyday activities can be better understood by applying some concepts from this course
and reasoning quantitatively.
I've been out of school for almost 15 years and math was never one of my best subjects. IT was always
very confusing to me, but this class and the reading and activities really helped in re-teaching me to do a
lot of things I had forgotten about. The examples it provided with the learn as you go technique was
really great for me! It also made me realize how much I use math in my everyday life without even
thinking about it, math really is all around us. When I'm making recipes and want to double or even
triple it, I am using math to figure out how much of each ingredient I would need. Or even reading labels
and figuring out the serving size and determining how much of something I will need to make depending
on how many people I am making it for. For example, this past weekend I helped my friend throw her
daughter a graduation party. We had to determine how much of each food item we would need
depending on how many guests were going to be attending so we didn't end up having too much or not
enough. Another concept I use in my (most) everyday life is when I am at a store and there is an item for
sale with a percentage off. I can figure those out in my head fairly quickly and determine how much
money would come off the original price. This class has been a nice refresher to basic math, and I
enjoyed re-learning the concepts, some old and new.
