3 1.0 Project Initiating 1.1 Project Charter 1.1.1 Justifying the Project Travis Ball and Brian Jam are two Facebook field engineers who are in charge of the inner network of Newton County Data Center in Covington Georgia, they are looking to expand the current local network load capacity that will add to the nationwide network frame. Travis and Brian have secured the downtime on the network for work to be accomplished, including the physical security clearance. This project that they wish to complete is called the Bigger Better H-Grid. The distribution frame room (BDF) is not outfitted for the installation. A rack location structure and switch devices are to be added and connected to the Facebook network. An analysis from the network programmers shows that this project will add seven billion in potential yearly revenue. Their goal is to become the first Facebook data center to have this type of installation done under the future planning date (FPY) target date of 31 December 2023 and start on 9 October 2023. This project is projected to add more than sixty percent of load capacity space for Facebook online storage sales to end users. The installation locations are ten different BDFs, outfit physical rack frames, install 880 switch devices for fiber and copper, patch 55,080 fiber connections, 1440 patch copper connections, and scan all fiber into the field information manager (FIM). The total project budget is initially set at one million dollars. The plan is to have this project completed on 1 December 2023, one hundred percent connection audit passes before turnover, and be up and running by 15 November 2023 for early program testing. This project is going to require pin-point planning and scheduling
