Emily Adams-PDE #2 @ Cherokee County Job Fair 1 *Unfortunately these are the only images I have, which are proof of my registration, the flier for it, and texts between a family friend who was there and helped me out. At the fair, I had left my phone in the car so I did not get tempted to get on it. • Ideas - what did you gain from the Professional Development Engagement opportunity? → I gained so much from this opportunity, I made many connections with many different schools and gave my resumes to some of the schools I know are specifically hiring with what I am interested in. I was able to meet with a family friend as well who helped introduce me personally to some of his coworkers and other administrative professionals at other schools to help build those connections as well. • Connections - what connections did you make between a) existing knowledge or b) course content (textbook or class)? → I had to incorporate much of what we have learned in class about interviews and building professional connections. I also had to make sure my resume was updated based on everything we have learned in class in building a resume that is catered to my specific career field. I also had to make sure I was prepared for interview
Emily Adams-PDE #2 @ Cherokee County Job Fair 2 questions and dressed professionally. • Experiences - what was your experience with the Professional Development Engagement opportunity? Were you nervous, excited, etc.? → I was super nervous going into the career fair, I was worried I was not dressed right or I was going to say the wrong thing. After meeting with my family friend he helped make everything seem lighter and easier. It actually turned out to be really casual and I was able to talk to many different schools on their education requirements and specific things that make them different or better than other schools. It did not necessarily guarantee me a job or make the choice easier on which school I want to go to but it did help narrow down the search. • Quote(s) - what did someone say that made an impact, why? "We are all friends here just meeting up, making connections, and having fun. The stressful interview and professional stalking comes later. Today just worry about finding out about different schools and getting your face seen and name heard" → One of my friends' advisors said this (or something similar to this) to me before we started and it helped make an impact and take some of the nervousness and stressfulness away from me. It was my first career fair and I definitely think I was overthinking and stressing the whole thing. • Question(s) - what questions do you have as a result of the Professional Development Engagement opportunity? → I guess with it approaching April and me starting to formally apply and professionally reach back out to these schools, should I mention hey I met you before or what is the professional way of saying "hey do you remember me" ?
