Discuss some of the underlying situations that contribute to discrimination by age and what companies can do to avoid decisions based on age alone. The law prohibits the harassment of a person because of their age. Derogatory statements about a person's age can be harassment because it is offensive and isolated and such offense warrants consequences because it is discrimination. Work situation example is the law prohibits discrimination in any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoff, training, benefits, and any other term of condition of employment," (EEOC, n.d.). The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older," (EEOC, n.d.) As a non-traditional student I can honestly say that I have not experienced any discrimination within UOP, however I believe there has been discrimination on some level, and it is very hard to proof. I have a very extensive resume with both experience and education along with skills and yet I have had the hardest time acquiring the career field I would like. This type of discrimination is very hard to prove, unlike work situations.
