2 Statement of Problem for Policy Analysis Paper I will be writing my policy analysis paper on wrongful convictions. Wrongful convictions can have serious consequences for individuals and society as a whole. Here are some of the issues associated with wrongful convictions: Loss of freedom: Wrongful convictions can result in innocent individuals being incarcerated for crimes they did not commit, often for many years or even decades. Stigma: Even after being exonerated, wrongfully convicted individuals may still carry the stigma of being a convicted criminal, which can impact their ability to find employment or rebuild their lives. Financial loss: Being wrongfully convicted can result in financial loss, as individuals may lose their jobs, homes, and savings while they are incarcerated. Lack of justice: When the wrong person is convicted, the true perpetrator remains free and may continue to commit crimes. Systemic issues: Wrongful convictions can expose systemic issues within the criminal justice system, such as biased police investigations, unreliable witness testimony, or flawed forensic evidence. Psychological trauma: Wrongful convictions can also result in psychological trauma for the individual and their loved ones, including post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety. Limited resources: Resources such as time and money are spent on prosecuting and convicting the wrong person, which detracts from efforts to investigate and prosecute actual perpetrators.
