Question 1 (a) List the FOUR (4 ) main stages in a construction project. (4 marks) (b) Describe the characteristics of an industrial project. List TWO (2) examples of industrial projects in Singapore. (12 marks) (c) Identify the key differences between domestic and nominated sub-contractors. Explain the significance of the contractual relationship in the latter case and its potential effect on the main contractor. (9 marks) Question 2 (a) Describe how a planner adds value to a development project besides preparing submissions for approval? (12 marks) (b) Identify the key differences between the client and main contractor's QS on their responsibilities and functions (13 marks) Question 3 (a) The design engineer has a key role in building construction design. Illustrate how his input contributes to project excellence. (10 marks) (b) Identify FIVE (5) areas of work that a planning engineer would be involved. (10 marks) (c) The Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) engineer is a specialist dealing with distinctive systems within a building and construction project. Describe FIVE (5) main types of MEP engineers and their work areas. (5 marks)

Question 4 (a) List TEN (10) information or considerations a Contractor need to know, prior to making a decision to tender? (10 marks) (b) One area where contractors can add value to the construction process is through the application of prefabricated construction. (i) Demonstrate your understanding of the advantages of prefabrication; and (5 marks) (ii) Suggest FIVE (5) reasons why there is resistance to its adoption. (5 marks) (c) Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC) is one of the methods to boost productivity, enhance safety and in construction quality. Describe what is PPVC? (5 marks) Question 5 (a) A project manager must understand every professional's role and responsibility. He must be able to appreciate the impact of their inputs, decisions and actions, to design a suitable system and supporting work processes to 'collate' and 'channel' them. Describe the best methods and tools available to him? (10 marks) (b) A professional construction manager would carry out the tasks of project planning, design and construction in an integrated manner.
