Prescriptive Question (2 points):
Full credit: The student clearly restates their problem statement, identifies the
conditions that have led to the social problem, and develops a prescriptive question
that addresses how things should be in response to the identified social problem.
No credit: The student does not provide a prescriptive question.
Target Audience (3 points):
Full credit: The student clearly determines the target audience for their op-ed,
identifies who would benefit from reading their op-ed, and who has the power to
implement the changes they are advocating for.
No credit: The student does not provide a target audience for their op-ed.
Possible News Outlets (2 points):
Full credit: The student identifies at least one potential news outlet that accepts op-
eds in the Atlanta or Georgia area, and considers the political leaning of the news
outlet. (2 points)
No credit: The student identifies no potential news outlet.
News Peg (3 points)
Full credit: A clear and relevant news peg is identified that provides a specific context
for the op-ed piece.
No credit: No news peg is identified, or it is completely irrelevant.
