Hi class! For this week's discussion I am thrilled that we're touching base on this, and I am also looking forward to reading what benefits are important to everyone else. The three benefits that are most important to me are flexible work hours, medical insurance, and tuition reimbursement. Flexible work hours: This is one benefit that I am big on. Flexible work hours include, telework/working remotely, a compressed work week and changes to the time of day when an employee needs to start or stop work just as long as they complete their 40 hours for the week. I think that having the option to work remotely is good for your health and mental well-being. You have a lack of commute and a better work-life balance which includes those flexible work hours. There is less exposure to illness which then prevents employees from calling out sick and you can become more independent because you aren't sitting next to a colleague who can easily help you and you'll find yourself developing the skill of looking for your own answers and becoming more proactive to find what you need on your own. Medical insurance: Over the years I have learned how important it is to have health insurance and good health insurance in fact. I am someone who gets sick often and makes more than a few trips a year to my doctor. I also have had a few times where I was in an emergency position and needed to go to the ER and if I didn't have health coverage from my work, I would be paying a lot of money out of pocket. This also goes for coverage of medicine, if I didn't have health insurance medicine that I have needed would be extremely expensive. Tuition reimbursement: While I don't have this at my current job my previous job did offer this, and it was awesome to have. Not only does it motivate you to have good grades, but it also is basically telling you 'hey why aren't you going back to school if you can get some of it reimbursed'. Helping employees with college tuition I believe may boost retention and recruitment and also provides employers with a pool of highly skilled employees. Thank you!
