If I were starting a small business, I would prefer my partner to be an altruist.
Exception customer service is rare. If I can have a partner who cares about
others and helps them despite not gaining anything by helping, that will be a
winner and make our business customer service excellent. In most cases,
individuals will tell others.
We have a faithful customer who visits our business weekly. This customer is
so pleased with our business that the customer spreads the word. Because of
word of mouth, we have gained new business. On our customer's last visit,
when the customer was ready to leave, the car wouldn't start. It would be an
hour before someone could pick the customer up, and the customer had not
eaten all day. My new partner offered to take the customer home and
stopped to get the customer something to eat, but they wouldn't accept any
compensation.
