BUS 610 Week 1 - discussion 1 For this discussion forum, imagine that during a weekly video conference with staff, you observe that two members of the team are always off camera or visibly occupied with other tasks. What aspects of the Hawthorne study are relevant to addressing this sort of behavior? The Hawthorne effect is also viewed as the observer effect and is closely linked with observer bias. It occurs when the behavior of participants changes resulting from being observed, instead of the result of an intervention. It is essential to note that participants should be aware they are being observed for this effect to occur. In other words, when groups or individuals realize they are being observed, their behavior is likely to change. This change can be either positive or negative, based on the research context. Also, it is essential to note that participants should be aware they are being observed for this effect to occur. The Hawthorne effect cannot be entirely avoided in research using observation of participant or experimental research. Some things to reduce it include investing in interpersonal relationships at the study site, providing participants task unrelated to the purpose of the study and whenever possible, opting for a naturalistic or convert observation (Nikolopoulou, 2022).
