The Human Skeleton The skeleton is divided into two main parts: _axial skeleton__________ __appendicular skeleton_________ Adult humans generally have a total of 206 bones sesamoid bones and sutural bones (wormian bones) At birth, humans have about 270 Human children often have more than 270, depending on the developmental stage. Bone generally fuse together (e.g. the pelvis) during childhood and adolescence. The fusion process is completed between adolescence and the mid-twenties.
